Individual Sports and Their Equipment

Sports have existed as long as civilizations existed. Sports provided people with a means to unwind and have fun, as well as to compete in friendly manners. Men have been avid fans of sports since the beginning of time. The Greeks held sports games during funerals, and the Romans had their gladiatorial combat that, though brutal, is also a form of competition. Those Gladiators had to find for their lives after all, at the whim of the Roman Emperor.

Of course, these days, sports are no longer combative or require brute strength to play. Injuries are well taken care of, and steps are done to minimize the occurrences of these during games. This is where sports equipment come in. Let us look at the some competitive sports and the specific equipment that they use to play and ensure safety for their players.

Japanese Kendo

The Japanese sport of Kendo evolved from a more combative art of: Kenjutsu, or the way of the sword. Kendo was developed during the Meiji era to change the focus on sword art from being combat arts to a means of spiritual development. It was also a means to standardize the otherwise diverse sets of sword styles that developed all over Japan. Nowadays, Kendo is a popular sport that is played worldwide.

The main equipment in kendo is the bamboo sword that is used during gameplay. It is called the shinai, although a different wooden sword called the bokuto is also used during training in the gym. To protect the player from the impact of Kendo blows, they are to wear a set of armor called the bogu. It is a full body armor that covers the head, the arms, the midsection and the shin.

Corn Toss

Corn toss, or sometimes called cornhole, is the modern derivation of a primitive game of tossing stones into a hole in gaining points. Unlike before that stones are used, bean bags or corn bags are thrown in this game into a large hole in a middle of a board. This type of game is very simple and people of any age can learn and play it with just a few minutes.
